Barclays Trading Places Award
The Barclays Trading Places Award recognises men and women who have transformed their lives by starting a business after being forced out of work through no fault of their own.
Joe was last year's winner of the prestigious award under the category of 'Success after Unemployment', after his revolutionary business venture changed his life.
'Being a Barclays Trading Places finalist is not about being better than anyone else - it's the acknowledgement of the success you have made of your life.'
Northern Lights - Business of the Month
Joe recently won the Northern Lights - Polaris Business of the Month competition. This award, based within the University of Central Lancashire (Uclan), recognises the achievement of success in new businesses.
Peter Rawling, Northern Light's panel judge and incubation manager praised 'Joe Brown's Egg Round' by saying that "Any business that gains 350 clients in the first year is pretty exceptional and has the foundation to be a solid business. 'Joe Brown's Egg Round' is an exciting new business that has a lot of potential for future growth and is a great example of entrepreneurship".
Joe was awarded with the prize of a £250 cheque which he has invested into expanding the business and his website, alongside website production company 'Turbo Lemon Media' (who are also based at Uclan).
Leonard Cheshire - Ready to Start Entrepreneur Awards
The Ready to Start Awards, in partnership with Barclays, celebrate the outstanding achievements of disabled entrepreneurs, who have overcome barriers and are improving their lives. The main aim of the award is to encourage the growth and development of becoming self-employed, rather than praising immediate success of the company.
Joe gained a Highly Commended place in the award, and celebrated his success at the "Ready to Start" event at the House of Lords in London with his Mother, Sue Brown, who has supported and encouraged Joe at every stage of his business.
The Stelios Award for Disabled Entrepreneurs 2009
This unique award is funded by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, the globally successful entrepreneur and founder of 'easyJet'. The creation of the award was motivated by Stelios' goal of not only supporting disabled entrepreneurs, but also raising awareness of the skills and inventiveness of those with disabilities.
Last year, Joe got through to the top five finalists of the award and Sophie Down, the awards' Corporate Partnerships Officer, stated that the judges were 'unanimous' in encouraging him to enter for this year's 2010 award. She went on to say that;
'The judges were really impressed with your business model and your vision for expanding your business into new markets. Reading your application and hearing more about you in the presentation, they were also impressed with how much you have achieved at such a young age.'
This year Joe aims to expand his business further, with the use of an electric-powered delivery vehicle, which will enable him to expand his delivery area and could help him to win this year's award.
